Christmas concert in Gießen: A festival of music and community!
In Gießen, numerous musical events have taken place in Gießen that celebrate the festive season. On Sunday a Christmas concert was carried out in the cultural church of St. Thomas Morus, which was designed by various music -making groups.
The concert included appearances by the orchestra and the flute ensembles of the Gießen Music Support Association as well as the choir "Ever-Greens" of the Gießen Singing Association. A varied program was presented under the direction of Ulrich Dietz (choir) and Burga Seidel-Ulrich (texts). Readings of spiritual texts by Brigitta Meinhardt added the musical performances. The event was framed by a fanfare by Theodore Dubois played by Regina Massalsky on the organ, and the well -known song "Every year again".
Various repertoire delights the audience
In terms of content, the program reflected the original importance of the Christmas festival and included works by renowned composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Dietrich Buxtehude and Georg Philipp Telemann. Particularly noteworthy are the performance of "Die Domglocken in the Christ Night" by Ernst Simon Flügel and the "prelude and fugue" by Buxtehude, which could be heard on the organ. The soprano Felicitas Schöll and the piano accompaniment by Regina Massalsky contributed to the positive mood of the concert. With a degree from "Oh you happy" and the organ fantasy "Christmas magic" by Otto Teich, the actors released the audience into the contemplative time of Christmas. All donations from the concert benefit the installation of the organ from the demolished Wichernkirche into the chapel of the St. Thomas Morus Church.
Another upcoming concert is organized by Cantamus Gießen on December 22, 2023 in the Bonifatiuskirche. This concert, which begins at 7 p.m., marks the first appearance of the new choir director Elisabeth Tzschentke. Cantamus Gießen, which has won numerous prizes in choir competitions since it was founded in 2009, offers a varied program that ranges from traditional Christmas carols to contemporary pieces to create a contemplative transfer to the Christmas days.
The last concert of Cantam took place in 2019 before a break was taken due to the pandemic and participation in the Hessian choir competition. The choir reached fourth place in the German Choir competition in Hanover in June 2023.
The concert is organized in cooperation with the association Friends of the St. Bonifatius church music and regional cantor Michael Gilles. The ticket prices for the concert are 9 euros for a standard ticket and 14 euros for a supporter ticket, while children up to 12 years have free admission. In advance, the tickets are available from both the "House of Cards" in Gießen and online, while tickets are sold for 17 euros at the box office, if available.
