New Year's Eve in Gießen: record income and new challenges!

On Sunday, December 29, 2024, the traditional “Sparkasse Gießen New Year's Run” takes place in its 52nd edition. This popular running event, which is used by many sports enthusiasts as the annual financial statements, is already fully booked this year with a registration record of 1,800 participants. The run, organized by LAZ Gießen Stadt und Land e.V., offers various distances: school run over 900 meters, 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers and the half marathon over 21.1 kilometers. The competition day

The first starting shot sounds at 9.45 a.m. for the school run, followed by the half marathon runners at 10 a.m. and the 10 km runners at 10.30 a.m. The 5 kilometers of participants finally start at 11 a.m. The route leads through the attractive Schiffenberger forest, which is known for its inclines. Martin Theimer, the chairman of the LAZ, points out that the participants have to adjust to frozen, mushy or easy -to -walk routes depending on the weather conditions. As usual, there will also be a snack offer, shower facilities and a professional time measurement by transponders, adds the LAZ Gießen .

Another highlight is the separate rating for walkers and Nordic Walker on the 5 and 10 kilometers, which underlines the inclusive character of the run. Finally, all finishers receive a medal that is sponsored by the Erben Autohaus, and the three strongest running groups are rewarded with a barrel of Pilsner. The organizers advise the participants to appear in good time on the event day to avoid delays at the start.
