Owner Friedhelm Bier, 81 years old, made this painful decision after his wife Susanne died in March 2024. It was the driving force behind the business, which has become an institution for residential culture and extraordinary furniture over the years

"It is incredibly difficult for me to take this step," admits Friedhelm Bier. The furniture store was not just a business, but a life's work that his parents built with a lot of dedication after the war. In the 1980s, he took over the second generation business and passed it on with passion. However, the loss of his wife and the changed buying behavior of customers who are increasingly migrating to online trading have forced the traditional business to his knees. Added to this is the shortage of skilled workers, which made it difficult to search for qualified staff.

Sales and future plans

To say goodbye to his long -standing customers, the Bier furniture store is now starting a large sales sale. Furniture, lights, carpets and decorative items are offered at reduced prices. "It is important to us to hand over our inventory to customers who appreciate our selection and personal advice," emphasizes Friedhelm Bier. The remaining opening times are every Thursday and Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. to the end of the year.

The future of the premises remains uncertain. "We are currently looking for a tenant," says Friedhelm Bier. However, one thing is certain: his planning office in Spangenberg will continue to exist to continue the tradition of the Bier furniture store in any form.
