Fruit tree care in the biosphere reserve: Workshop for nature conservation friends!
The care of fruit trees is a crucial aspect in landscape and nature conservation, especially in the UNESCO biosphere reserve Rhön. In order to address the high care requirements of these trees, the biosphere reserve in cooperation with the Hofbieber forestry office organizes a workshop on Friday, October 18, which is devoted to the proper care of fruit trees.
This all -day event entitled "Care for the orchard in a way of nature" begins at 10 a.m. and is expected to end at 4 p.m., depending on the weather conditions. Participants are cordially invited to join the experts on this day in order to learn more about the right cutting technique and the nature conservation aspects of fruit tree care. The well-known orchard tree keeper Martin Trabert will lead the participants through the workshop.
practical learning outdoors
Then, to a theoretical introduction in the Hofbieber forestry office, the participants can apply their knowledge in practice on a orchard. This practical component is an excellent way to implement what has been learned directly and gain experience. No costs for the event are charged, but in -line registration is required to regulate the number of participants. Interested parties can register by phone or email by October 14th.
An important part of the workshop is the mediation of basic knowledge about the longevity of the fruit trees. The training focuses on sustainable maintenance measures that aim to maximize the yield, but rather put the health and ecological stability of the trees in the foreground. In times of climate change, the right care plays an outstanding role so that the trees are robust towards the challenges of current environmental conditions.
For the workshop, participants should think of weatherproof clothing and solid shoes because they will be outdoors. Work gloves and, if available, pruning shears and saws should also be brought along. The event is not only instructive, but also offers the opportunity to exchange ideas with other nature enthusiasts and enjoy outdoor activities.
In addition to the care of the fruit trees, the Rhön biosphere reserve is actively committed to protecting the Rhöner mountain meadows. These areas are important habitats for meadow breeders threatened with extinction. Thanks to the life project, considerable areas of more than 1000 hectares were revitalized, and new paths were shown, the visitors easier to access these important natural areas.
