Fulda relies on climate protection: New concept with 38 measures by 2045!

A significant development in the field of climate protection has taken place in Fulda. The city has passed a comprehensive climate protection concept that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The concept, which was developed for over a year, received the approval of the responsible committee and is now to be discussed in the city council. The aim is that Fulda will be climate -neutral by 2045.

Current numbers show that Fulda was faced with 866,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions in 2022. On average, this corresponds to 12.67 tons per person, which is higher than the national average of 9.80 tons. A central component of the new plan is to reduce these emissions by implementing 38 different measures in areas such as transport and business.

climate protection for everyone

City building councilor Daniel Schreiner emphasized the importance of the community: "Climate protection is not just the task of politics. Everyone, whether private individuals, business or association, has to actively participate." This underlines the core idea of the concept that progress can only be made through the commitment of all city dwellers.

The concept includes a variety of fields of action that need to be tackled. These include the development of climate -friendly commercial areas and the expansion of solar systems. Measures to save drinking water and the redesign of parking areas should also help to make the city more environmentally friendly

The committee for construction, climate protection and urban planning has clearly communicated the importance: "Climate protection is a challenge for the entire urban society." Committee chairman Michael Ruppel (CDU) pointed out that the city administration is not solely able to achieve the goals. Citizens and companies are also asked to become active in order to make progress together.

The engineering office Cooperative, which presented the concept, made it clear that many developments also depend on external factors, such as political decisions at federal level. This shows how complex climate protection is and how many different levels have to come together to achieve the goals set.

broad support in the city parliament

The concept has mobilized broad support in the city parliament, including opposition factions that support the measures, but also indicate that some suggestions have been discussed in the past. There are often complex opinions on this topic, but the common denominator seems to be that climate protection is considered urgent.

The proposed measures are diverse and range from the introduction of a combination ticket for public transport to the expansion of photovoltaic systems in municipal buildings. This openness and diversity of new ideas could be the key to lowering the high emissions of the city and contributing to a more sustainable development.

In a democratic discussion, the role of the AfD was criticized for creating the concept because it did not take part in the process. The committee seat emphasized the need to promote climate protection across party political differences.

The public will have the opportunity to get to know the concept on November 13 during an information event where citizens can learn more about the details and the planned measures. This promises to become an important stage in municipal climate protection policy.
