Opening of the Penny Market in Fulda: Delays without end!
The opening of the new Penny market at Frankfurter Straße 71 in Fulda is delayed. The start for the first half of 2025 was originally planned, but the new building requires more extensive construction work than initially assumed. This can be reported from reports from fuldaer newspaper and Osthessen news out.
The location was previously a Staples branch that has been closed for more than two years. Anne Behrendt, assistant to the Südwest region of Penny Markt GmbH, confirmed that the approval for the building application for the change in use was granted in 2024. Due to the current circumstances, however, no construction period can be created. The company is currently working with various specialist companies to clarify the next steps.
scope and concept of the new market
The new Penny market will offer a total of up to 3500 items on a sales area of around 800 square meters. The concept of the market includes optimized customer management and special themed worlds on the shelves. According to information from Anne Behrendt, the opening is shifted indefinitely due to the extensive construction work.
The closure of the previous Staples branch in Fulda decreased to the bankruptcy of OfficeCentre GmbH in February 2022. A total of six Staples locations were closed in Hesse, which strengthened the need for new retail options in the region. Penny, a German food discounter and part of the Rewe group since 1989, plans to realize the opening of the new market as soon as possible.
