Eichenzell: bike path and local recreation - local council is making projects ahead!

The municipality of Eichenzell recently made important decisions to promote the development of its local recreation area around the Wartturm. In an agreement that was made in the last meeting of the municipal representatives, it is stated that a previously agricultural route to a bike path should be converted into a bike path. At the same time, the local recreation area is expanded around the waiting tower.

Mayor Johannes Rothmund (CDU) emphasizes that permanent security of the gastronomic and tourist activities in this region is of the highest priority. For this reason, the draft of a development plan for the "local recreation area Eichenzell - Am Türmchen" was brought into the meeting, which was unanimously accepted by all factions, including CDU, SPD, Citizens' List, FPD and CWE.

Eichenzeller community representatives bring two projects ahead

One of the most important points in the development plan is to expand the development opportunities around the Wartturm. Rothmund illustrates that due to the situation in the outdoor planning under planning law, only construction projects have been implemented to a limited extent. With the new development plan, those responsible would like to create and modernize smaller construction projects on an area of up to 7,500 square meters, such as grill huts or sanitary facilities. The mayor expresses the hope that the development plan can come into force by autumn 2025, which would enable the implementation phase.

Another step in the right direction is the rededication of an economic path on the northern outskirts of Eichenzell into a bike path. The decision about it was also made unanimously. The new cycle path is created as part of the expansion of the cycle path network in the district of Fulda and is to be paved continuously. With a width of three meters, the path will be an important connection between Fuldaer Straße and the Fasaneriestrasse, which Rothmund calls "important connection" and "gap closure".

The financing of the cycle path is guaranteed by funding from the state of Hesse, which cover 80 percent of the costs, and 10 percent from the district of Fulda. Only 10 percent of the costs are borne by the municipality. However, the exact costs have not yet been determined. There are also plans for the expansion of the Landesstraße 3141 between Grossenlüder and Eichenau, where walking and cycle paths are also planned. These plans have been running for over ten years.
