In an exciting election Sunday in Hesse, the citizens in six municipalities chose their new mayors! From Butzbach to Abbey - the votes ensured surprising twists and turns in several cities.
in Butzbach, a city with 27,500 inhabitants, Sascha Huber from the CDU won the election with 55.2 percent and replaced the incumbent mayor Michael Merle (SPD), who received 44.8 percent. The turnout was 49.7 percent. In the North Hessian municipality of Edertal, the independent candidate Frederik Westmeier prevailed against David Zerbes with 55.2 percent, while incumbent Klaus Gier no longer competed after two term. Here the turnout was 60.3 percent.
Important decisions in Central Hesse
in Breidenbach, SPD Mayor Christoph Felkl remains in office with 63.6 percent, while his independent challenger Steffen did not receive any 36.4 percent. In Wehretal, Frank Kummer replaced the incumbent mayor Timo Friedrich (49.1 percent) after a narrow race with 50.9 percent. The turnout in Wehretal was also high at 62.9 percent.
in Abststeinach, Sven Bassauer prevailed against Karin Klemmer with 60.2 percent after the election became necessary because the previous mayor Angelika Beckenbach moved to the district office. The turnout here was an impressive 66.9 percent. Finally, the independent mayor Jörg Lautenschläger was re -elected in Modautal with an overwhelming 83.7 percent, while Maria Jansen received only 16.3 percent. The turnout was 59.6 percent.
