Swine fever spreads: District offices react with emergency measures!
In the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg, a total of 15 new cases of African swine plague (ASP) have been found in dead wild boars since Christmas. This increases the number of positive ASP cases in the district to 40 (as of January 8). 419 positive cases were also registered in the adjacent district of Bergstrasse and 262 positive cases in the Groß-Gerau district. The deputy district administrator Lutz Köhler (CDU) said that the epidemic has increased in dynamics, despite the protective measures already taken.
The focus of the finds is located in the west of the district, especially in the cities of Griesheim and Weiterstadt, which are located in the core area of the built -in zone. In the districts of Mühltal and Seeheim-Jugenheim there is hope that the infections only affect a local rotting. The Rheingau-Taunus district reported the first positive case of ASP in December, which led to the expansion of the restricted zone II. All of the wild boar cadavers tested outside the core zone were negative.
Current measures and recording wild boar
The positive ASP finds are limited to the Rheininsel Mariannaue and the Grünaue. There were 38 wild boar carcasses, of which 31 ASP positive were. In order to counteract the increase in the ASP, a fishing facility on the Mariannaue will soon be put into operation. In addition, an electric fence south of the B42 is built to better differentiate the core zone. In the restricted zone I, wild boar hunt is intensified in January, while those responsible observe the rising flood of the Rhine and its possible influence on the game change. On the Rhineland-Palatinate side, fences had to be mixed and supplemented.
Details of the restricted zones in the Rhein-Neckar district
The following regulations apply in the restricted zone II (infected zone), which includes Laudenbach, Hemsbach and several neighboring communities:
- leash obligation for dogs
- cycling, riding, pedestrian traffic and driving with sick leave is only allowed on paved paths
- Use of mountain bike trails, geocaching and schnitzel hunts is prohibited
- barbecue areas only in built -up locations or their surroundings (max. 100 meters) can be used
In the restricted zone I (buffer zone), hunters are called for increased falling game and hunting for wild boar. Special hygiene regulations apply to hunting equipment and the handling of stored wild boars.
To further contain the virus, protective fences along the BAB 656 and B 45 are built towards the Hessian border. These measures aim to prevent wild boars from draining the ASP virus into pig content.
