ASP remains threat: new cases in the Groß-Gerau district and the area!
Büttelborn, Deutschland - The African swine plague (ASP) is anything but overcome! Despite the quieter external circumstances in the population, the threat from this dangerous virus is still present. In the district of Groß-Gerau and the neighboring regions, wild boars report new cases every day. Parts of the Bergstrasse as well as Büttelborn, Trebur and Gernsheim are particularly affected, where infected wild boar cadavers were recently discovered. Since the outbreak of the disease in mid-June, a total of 504 carcasses have been examined in Groß-Gerau-188 of which were ASP-positive, as of October 23. These alarming numbers make you listen!
intensive measures to combat
First district member Adil Oyan emphasizes the importance of a constant exchange between the district administration, the ministry and the farmers. "We will continue to take all the necessary steps to curb the African swine fever," said Oyan. Current measures include adjustments to the locking zones and the organization of carcass attempts. The population is asked to follow the applicable rules to prevent the spread of the virus. For example, this means using paths in the forest and leading dogs on a maximum five -meter -long leash - regulations that should apply especially in the heavily affected areas.
The responsible persons also warn of the improper handling of protection fences: goals must not be destroyed or left open, as this endangers the efforts to contain the ASP. The district started an information campaign, supported by the state of Hesse and the State Hunting Association to clarify the population about the dangers of the disease.
Positive news for pig farms
But there are also bright spots in the gloomy ASP position: Compliance pigs could now be secured for pigs in the circle during a slaughterhouse within the circle. These come from healthy stocks and from responsible, organic farms. In addition, some piglets from a company in the heavily contaminated restricted zone III can be transferred to a less affected restricted zone II. These developments show that despite the challenges, ways to maintain animal husbandry are found.
