Heroic stem cell donation: Gmünder Benjamin Thor saves life!

Waldenstein, Österreich - Benjamin Thor from Albrechts has extended the life of a man suffering from leukemia from Germany through a courageous stem cell donation. The 33-year-old had experienced the importance of stem cell donations up close as early as 2009, when his sister Julia suffered blood cancer at the age of 15. Despite all efforts, his sister lost the fight against the disease. The association "Giving for Life" contacted Benjamin 2018 and invited him to register as a potential donor in a global database. This is an important measure, since the likelihood that siblings are suitable as a donor, about 25 percent, as reports.

In autumn 2021, Thor received the surprising news that he was a donor for a leukemia patient. After further tests, he was finally able to donate his stem cells in the AKH Vienna in January 2022. "I had so many stem cells that I was finished after a little over two hours," the donor recalled the uncomplicated course of the donation, which, however, brought him some physical symptoms such as flu -like symptoms. The sad phrase came later: Benjamin learned that the recipient of his donation, a middle -aged man, died in spring 2023. Despite this sad news, Benjamin is proud that he was able to give the man for 15 months additional lifetime. "Through my donation, he experienced one more Christmas," summarizes Thor moving, such as Noen.at documented.
