Cocaine smuggling: Hamburg's port records drastic decline!
In the port of Hamburg, significantly fewer cocaine will be secured in 2024 than in the previous year. According to reports from Volksblatt have so far discovered around five tons of the drug. Last year the crowd was still about 34 tons. The greatest find this year was made in September when the police confiscated two tons of cocaine in a container with bananas.
These declines of secured cocaine are also a reaction to the more intensive controls in the European overseas ports, such as the SPIEGEL reported. The fact that the drug smuggling does not work smoothly shows a current process in Oldenburg, in which two men who were looking for cocaine in the North Sea with a crab cutter were sentenced to four years in prison. This indicates that the continuing efforts of the police and customs, ships and containers have an effect, but the number of unreported cases remains unclear. The stretched cocaine prices could indicate that the drug gangs are looking for new ways.
Hamburg's trading and security authorities agree that the challenges in drug trafficking continue to exist. "We notice that cocaine prices are going up because the offer is falling," said Hamburg's police chief Falk Schnabel. Together with the authorities from Rotterdam and Antwerp, Hamburg is working to strengthen the security measures and combat international drug trafficking. The development is observed closely, as there are fears that the smuggling may shift to other routes.
