Harburg's health center: record numbers for advice!

In Harburg, the Local Health Center (LGZ) experienced a real advisory boom just six months after its opening! Since the start in May, operated by the DRK Hamburg-Harburg, the consultants Katharina Kellermeier and Frederike Shawky have already carried out incredible 300 consultations. The demand is huge - and this is clearly shown in the long queues in front of the advice center. Citizens are hungry for support in health issues, and the LGZ quickly found a permanent place in the local advisory landscape!

In order to meet the enormous advisory requirements, the team was strengthened in July around the experienced consultant Frederike Shawky. Now not only advice on health issues, but also psychosocial support and coaching is offered. "We are often advised in parallel and a snake is formed in front of the advice center," says Shawky proudly. The consultations are diverse: from the support in filling out applications to help with difficult health facts - the consultants are there for the people who are often dependent on help due to language barriers or psychological impairments.

The LGZ offers its services at three locations in the Süderelbe area: in Neue Straße in the old town of Harburg, Neuwiedenthal and in the Phoenix district. Kellermeier has big plans and strives for a firm seat in Harburg. In addition, the advisory service is expanded in cooperation with Kami e.V., and since October there have been regular consultations on health issues in the mothers café near Wanita. "In any case, our goal is to work more and more with medical practices and to enter into more collaborations with health benefits," explains Kellermeier.
