New residential project in Hamburg-Langenhorn: 700 apartments in Diekmoor!

in Hamburg, specifically in the Langenhorn district, is a controversial construction project in the house that provides for the development of 700 new apartments on an allotment area in the Diekmoor. While the plans appear ambitious, they are not without resistance either. In particular, the massive interference with the natural environment creates discussions and concerns among the residents.

The official presentation of the project was recently taken place when the designs from an international competition were presented in which architects and landscape planners took part. The first place went to the architects of Winking in cooperation with WES Landscape architecture, which was awarded 15,000 euros for their draft. Senior construction director Franz-Joseph Höing praised the winning project because it optimally implemented the framework planning. Four- to eight-storey residential buildings are planned, which should be in the middle of a lot of green. Höing said this concept shows an "idea how to live in the new district".

controversy around the required living spaces

The Hamburg-Nord district sees this competition an important step. District director Michael Werner-Boelz from the Greens emphasized that this progress was decisive on the way to an exemplary urban planning solution. It was of appropriate importance that he was already pushing the Senate in the early phase of the project in order to avoid a possible citizens' request.

Not all residents support the project. The "Save the Diekmoor" initiative criticized the competition presentation that such planning could "lead any future planning to absurd". They warn that valuable nature in the north of Hamburg should give way to another piece of concrete, while at the same time the topics of climate warming and species death are becoming increasingly pressing.

The victorious design also offers a green area at Langenhorn Nord underground station and an appealing neighborhood entrance. These areas should offer a high quality of stay and make the new neighborhood more alive. Various uses on the ground floor and a mobility hub are planned that facilitates access to car sharing, public transport, rental bikes and e-scooters.

The residential buildings are to be designed in a court -like arrangement, which should offer the residents a variety of residential options. The buildings are aligned in such a way that a friendly neighborhood is created. Particular attention is also paid to the orientation of the southern development along the Foorthkamp.

Exhibition of competitive results

The design by Winking Froß Architects will form the basis for further functional planning. Results from current studies on topics such as cold air flow, waste water and nature conservation should be taken into account. The development plan is developed in a multi -stage process.

With the new construction project, important social questions should also be answered. Werner-Boelz sees the 700 new apartments, of which 60 percent are publicly funded, sees an answer to the urgent question of affordable living space. According to him, the winner's design is a good basis for future living quality and life in this new neighborhood.

Although many questions are still open, the competition designs will be exhibited in the district office at the Langenhorner Markt by October 18 and are accessible to interested parties. This is an opportunity to get an idea of future possibilities in this new city district.

The developments related to this construction in Langenhorn remain exciting and show how closely modern construction projects with the needs of living space and the protection of nature must be reconciled.
