Hamburg. A dramatic farewell is imminent: Maren Bergholz closes her "connoisseur" in Hoheluft-Ost! The concept store on Eppendorfer Weg will close its doors forever on December 31. The reasons? An incessuous fight against the adversities of the retail trade, which makes them limited.

After nine years full of passion and dedication, the 54-year-old former dance teacher has enough. "I have no more strength to fight," she admits. Corona pandemic has hit its business hard, followed by the inflation and repayment of corona aids in a five-digit amount. "How can the state insist on repayments in this difficult time?" She asks desperately. Her customers are looking for bargains and avoid the high -quality, small brands that they offer. The Eppendorfer Weg is also plagued by construction sites that continue to cloud the shopping experience.

The sale has already started and Bergholz looks back on the past few years. "If I had asked me four years ago, I would have said whether I would continue to pension," she says. But reality looks different. The closure is not only a loss for you, but also for the community. "It is up to each individual that the Eppendorfer Weg remains revitalized," she appeals to the Hamburgers to buy more on site and support the small shops.

In the new year she will work, a decision that brings her relief. "I'm not the online type," she says, while looking at her future. The connoisseur may close, but its message remains: the support of the local dealers is crucial to keep the cityscape alive. "We have to hold together so that small businesses can survive!"
