St. Pauli: Famous goals are renewed - a piece of history remains!

Davidstraße, 20359 Hamburg, Deutschland - Hamburg's notorious Herbertstraße, which is considered Germany's best -known brothel road, faces a striking change! The famous goals that block access for women are very worn out and are now exchanged by the Hamburg-Mitte district. But don't worry, this iconic photo motif will not completely disappear! A gate will be preserved in the Museum of Hamburg History as a monument to keep the history of the city alive.

The weather and years of use have added to the gates. Therefore, the Hamburg-Mitte district office, in cooperation with the authority for culture and the media, has decided to exchange the barriers on both sides of Herbertstraße one after the other. The first work begins from November 4th to 8th on the east side, specifically at the entrance on Davidstrasse. During this time, access is completely blocked to carry out the extensive construction work. But don't panic - the work should be completed on time for the weekend!

new gate and monument

For everyone who wants to use access via the west side, it remains open during the renovation measures. Later it is also planned to install a new goal system at the entrance via Gerhardstrasse, whereby the exact time frame has not yet been determined. A privacy screen with a historic graffitto of two half -naked devils will initially be preserved as a monument at the entrance on Davidstrasse to preserve the special atmosphere of the street.

For those interested, there will soon be the opportunity to visit the eastern goal in the Museum of Hamburg History. The district office has classified it as significant cultural and historically and is a listed building. This goal is exhibited as an important testimony in the history of the city, so that the fascinating history of Herbertstraße is not forgotten!
