Hamburg's Herbertstraße: Historical goals are restored!

in an exciting turn for the legendary Herbertstraße in Hamburg-St. Pauli is one of the notorious goals that have blocked access, dismantled and transferred to a museum since 1933! This goal, which marks the access to Davidstrasse, was dismantled in the morning and replaced by a temporary privacy screen. The renovation is not only an architectural project, but also a significant step in the city's culture of memory.

The Herbertstraße, known for their long history and the special access only for men from the age of 18, has now opened a new chapter. A new goal system will be installed by Friday, while the demolished privacy screen is handed over as an important historical testimony to the Museum of Hamburg History. These privacy systems, which were built by the National Socialists, are listed and are reminiscent of the dark past when sex workers were persecuted as "female anti -social elements". A memorial stone that has reminded of the suffering of these women since August increases the importance of this place.

important renovation work

The gate on the west side, access to Gerhardstraße, remains as a monument and will be restored at a later date. During the work, the entrance on Davidstrasse will remain closed until November 8th for security reasons. The renovation was necessary because decades of use and influences of the environment significantly affected the structural condition of the gates. Herbertstraße remains a place where prostitutes are waiting for free in Kober window, an unmistakable picture of Hamburg's culture.
