Hamburg's Herbertstraße: Historical goals are finally being renovated!

Hamburg. A new chapter for Hamburg's notorious Herbertstraße: The goals that have been preserving the secrets of the red light quarter for decades will soon be exchanged and shine in new splendor!

Herberstraße, a dazzling piece of history in Hamburg, is known for her secrets that are hidden behind two steel goals. These goals are not only a symbol for the most famous red light mile in Germany, but also a relic from the time of National Socialism when they were set up to banish the "female, anti -social elements" from the public eye. But the years have left their traces, and now it is time to renovate these historical privacy protection systems.

renovation of the privacy systems

The district office Hamburg-Mitte has announced that the gates on the east side of Herbertstraße will be replaced from November 4th to 8th. During this time, access via Davidstrasse remains closed. The renovation work is not only a question of aesthetics, but also of cultural preservation. The old privacy screen is handed over to the Museum of Hamburg History, where it is recognized as a significant contemporary witness in city history.

The renovation takes place according to schedule, so that the company is not affected at the weekend. The gate on the west side is preserved as a memorial and will be restored at a later date. Herberstraße remains taboo for everyone under the age of 18 and for women-a note that has shaped the access regulations since the 1970s.
