Hamburg from above: Historical aerial photographs in the Harburg City Museum

Altona, Deutschland - Hamburg's story from the air! In the Harburg City Museum, the fascinating development of the Hanseatic city comes to life due to the impressive aerial photographs of Günther Krüger (1919–2003). His pictures, which were taken between 1956 and 1969, show the first high -rise buildings after the Second World War, the Jungfernstieg from 1956 and the 1960 folk park stadium. These dizzy perspectives not only document the architectural miracles of post -war, but also the challenges that the city had to master during the reconstruction. The exhibition "Hamburg from above - a historic sightseeing flight (1956–1969) with photos of Günther Krüger" can be seen in the Harburg City Museum until March 23, 2025 and lets visitors immerse yourself in the eventful history of Hamburg.

insights into Jewish life in the Altona Museum

Another look into the past is taken in the Altona Museum, where the exhibition “Life Paths” examines the biographies of Jewish families during and after the time of National Socialism. In cooperation with the Freundeskreis of the Yad Vashem memorial, moving exhibits are presented, including a thoracic shrine that tells the story of Leon Daniel Cohen. This had survived the Theresienstadt concentration camp in 1942, but his family was murdered in Auschwitz in 1944. The exhibition, which can still be seen until May 12, 2025, offers an urgent insight into the life of Jewish people in Altona and the horrors of the Holocaust. The story of Käthe Starke-Goldschmidt, who survived and valuable documents and drawings, brought home to the warehouse.

These two exhibitions offer a unique opportunity to experience Hamburg's eventful history and the tragic fates of Jewish families up close. A must for everyone interested in history!
