Archbishop Heße celebrates the world day of the poor with touching encounters in Hamburg
Kleiner Michel, 20099 Hamburg, Deutschland - on Sunday Hamburg experienced a moving moment when Archbishop Stefan Heße visited the Fratello project on Little Michel to celebrate the world day of the poor. In the middle of homeless and formerly homeless people, as well as committed organizers and parishioners, Heße celebrated an impressive service. The subsequent lunch in the Catholic Academy offered a valuable opportunity for deep conversations and encounters between people who lived on the street and those who have never had this experience.
Archbishop Heße praised the project and the exchange that takes place there: "I am pleased that such profitable encounters take place here every month. To pray together, to eat, realities and experience with others is good and is often neglected in today's society." These words underline the importance of the project that creates space for encounters every month and promotes the dialogue between the different layers of society.
insights and Inspiration
The Fratello meetings, which usually take place once a month on Mondays, offer not only space for encounters, but also thematic program items. On the World Day of the Armen, Jörg Petersen read from his book "I see the sky, but the street stays in the head". Petersen, who has been part of Fratello since 2006 and has now completed an apprenticeship, works as a everyday companion in an old people's home. The reading was accompanied by rousing Irish live music and gave the day a special note.
Fratello is a joint project of the Catholic Academy Hamburg, the community on Little Michel and Caritas in the Archdiocese of Hamburg. Pope Francis initiated the World's Day of the poor in 2017, which has been celebrated every November since then. This year it was a day full of hope and community that touched the hearts of those present and put the importance of dialogue and solidarity in the foreground.
