Alster in change: Alster fir replaces fountain - Christmas magic is approaching!

Hamburg. A striking change is imminent! From Tuesday, the Jungfernstieg in Hamburg will no longer be adorned by the bubbling Alster fountain. Instead, the internal alster will soon shine in a festive splendor.

Where did the famous water fountain have been? This question will arise around the Jungfernstieg on November 5 if the impressive 50 meter high fountain, which bubbled daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., goes into the winter break. The Hamburg-Mitte district office has announced that the popular landmark is dismantled and brought to its winter quarters. "The pump is serviced there and prepared for the coming season 2025," explains spokeswoman Elsa Scholz.

Christmas joy on the Innenalster

Don't worry, the internal ner does not stay unadorned for long! The traditional Alster fir will take its place on November 27 - four days later than in 2023. The 15 meter high Nordmann fir will shine the Alster in a festive shine and heat the anticipation for the Christmas market on Jungfernstieg. However, the structure must run smoothly after the installation process almost fell into the water last year. A strike of the employees of the state company roads, bridges and water (LSBG) ensured massive delays at the time.

But the district office did not remain idle! A ship of alster tourism was hired to transport the fir in time. As usual, the solemn lighting of the Alster fir could be switched on at the push of a button in the presence of district manager Ralf Neubauer and Citizenship President Carola Veit (SPD). The Hamburgers can therefore look forward to a festive atmosphere if the lights shine again soon!
