Burglars use dark winter days: This is how Schleswig-Holstein protects itself!

Another alarming trend is shown in Schleswig-Holstein: the number of burglaries, especially in the dark winter months, continues to rise. According to the State Criminal Police Office (LKA), a total of 3,271 burglaries were recorded in Schleswig-Holstein in 2023, whereby the districts of Pinneberg, Segeberg, Stormarn and the Hanseatic city of Lübeck were particularly emerging. These regions not only benefit from good transport connections, but also offer ideal conditions for the burglars that can quickly turn out of the dust. Most burglaries took place in the Stormarn district, where over 400 acts were registered, mainly in the city of Ahrensburg, which is less than ten kilometers from Hamburg, such as ndr reported.

arrest of two alleged burglars

The police meanwhile arrested two men aged 29 and 31, who are held responsible for a total of 58 burglaries on the Baltic Sea coast. These acts that took place in restaurants, cafes and other commercial facilities in the Ostholstein and Plön districts caused a total damage of over 200,000 euros. The suspects were identified by the evaluation of surveillance videos and testimonies and are now in custody, while the investigation continues, such as Kreiszeitung reports.

In the first eight months of 2024, burglaries on the Baltic Sea coast, especially in gastronomic companies, are particularly suffering from lever windows and doors. The current statistics of the LKA show a slight decline in the burglaries as a whole, but the police warn that the typical burglar period is approaching during the holidays. Preventive measures, such as the installation of alarm systems and securing windows and doors, are therefore particularly advisable for homeowners
