Flu wave: Influenza B remains stubborn despite declining trend!

The flu wave in Austria has exceeded its preliminary climax, but there is no reason to relax. According to the Center for Virology of the MedUni Vienna, the activity of influenza virus A (H1N1) PDM09 decreases, while the infections with Virus B (Victoria) continue to stagnate at a high level. This was announced on Monday in a weekly report on the current flu season. The MedUni Vienna emphasizes that despite a declining trend is to be expected, which the population could keep on alert, since the figures from Influenza B do not go back, as krone.at reports.

High virus activity in Europe

Virus activity is still high across Europe; Countries such as France, Italy and the Benelux countries have reached the plateau phase. In contrast, Germany even an increase in infections in calendar week 8 (February 18 to 23). This means that the flu wave has not yet been overcome there. In the United States, the highlight of the flu wave was also reported, with decreasing numbers in most regions, such as Tt.com

A positive message is that the circulating viruses match the trunks selected in the current vaccine, which means that vaccination should be effective. As a rule, the flu wave in Austria begins in December or early January, reached its peak in February, and this year it was previously found when the numbers got up after the Christmas holidays. The current season is followed by an exceptionally long flu wave in the past two years, which was shaped by the Corona pandemic.
