Building fire in Frankenthal: Four injured and great smoke development

In the night of Saturday there was a disturbing incident in Frankenthal (Palatinate): a fire in an apartment building in Matthias-Grünewald-Straße demanded a total of four injuries. At around 00:07 a.m., the rescue workers were alerted with the urgent notification that human lives were in danger. It was already known on the journey that some people were locked in the building.

When the fire brigade arrived, an alarming picture was offered: the entire staircase of the five -story building was heavily smoked. Several residents tried to draw attention to themselves over the windows and balconies. Various teams were immediately sent into the building under heavy breathing protection in order to search for both other people and to initiate fire fighting. The fire had its origin in the basement area.

extinguishing and rescue use

The emergency services used two turntable ladders and portable ladders, and the use of hoods managed to save a total of around 30 people. The fire in the basement could be deleted quickly, but the damage was significant. The staircase was strongly sooty, and soot deposits had formed up to the roof. Fortunately, all apartments were spared from the smoke, except for one whose entrance door was not closed when leaving the residents, so that the apartment was uninhabitable.

In the following, the entire house was evacuated and closed due to the strong contamination of the staircase. Many residents initially found accommodation with friends and acquaintances, while others were housed in an emergency accommodation by the city of Frankenthal and disaster protection. Mayor Bernd Knöppel took care of the Situation and helped to accommodate those affected.

Three of the injured were transported to the hospital with suspected flue gas intoxication. Another person needed medical help due to health problems. The Frankenthal fire brigade was on site with over 40 emergency services and 8 vehicles, supported by civil protection forces and the regular rescue service, which provided several ambulances and an emergency doctor vehicle. Members of Stadtwerke Frankenthal also had to intervene to restore the supply of gas, electricity and water.

After the missions were completed, the fire brigade and the other rescue workers handed over the site to the Frankenthal police. This has taken up the investigation into the cause of the fire and the amount of the damage incurred. The background to these changes are to read in the article by www.presseportal.de .
