Peace dialogue in Oberhausen: Hope for the Middle East conflict!

On Sunday, January 12th, a political morning pint took place in the Alstaden colliery in Oberhausen from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event served to deal with the Middle East conflict and the longing for peace in the region. A central component of the program was a 30-minute contribution by Arte entitled "Dialog Middle East", which illuminates the situation and the challenges for the local people.

In addition, Prof. Ninon Colneric, a former judge at the European Court of Justice, gave a lecture on the origin and work of the state of Israel. The participants discussed the need for a grass root movement against wars and took into account the loss of loved ones on both sides of the conflict. The Initiative "Oasis of Peace" (NEve Shalom-Wahat al-Salam) was supported in Hebrew and Arabic. There was agreement that non-violent solutions in the Middle East conflict are possible through the strengthening of the local people, and successes in South Africa and 1989 in Germany were given as examples of non-violent changes.

According to information from Arte, members of the organizations "The Parents Circle-Families Forum" and "Combatants for Peace" stand up for non-violent solutions in the Middle East conflict. Especially in spring there is a common ceremony annually, which commemorates the victims of both sides. This event has the goal of expressing the common pain and promoting mutual understanding.

The report "Re: Dialog in Middle East", which was realized by an Israeli-Palestinian film team, illuminates the path of approach and looks at the perspectives on both sides.
