NEWGAS ADE: OMV invests in e-charging stations for the future!

Eisenstadt, Mattersburger Straße 28, Österreich - The switch from fossil fuels to alternative drives increasingly absorbs speed. OMV plans to close a number of CNG petrol stations in Austria by June 30, 2025. This measure is part of a larger restructuring plan towards more environmentally friendly energy sources. Affected petrol stations are located in Eisenstadt, Vienna and Gmunden, whereby alternatives are given for each station that drivers can use.

In Eisenstadt, the gas station at Mattersburger Straße 28 is closed, with the option, to the OMV petrol station in Wr. Neustadt or to Weiden on the lake. Similar alternatives in the capital Vienna exist at several locations, for example for the affected petrol station on Brunner Straße, which refers to OMV in Sterngasse or BP on Triester Strasse. Bahnhofstraße 42 is also closed in Gmunden, with the alternatives in Laakirchen or Gampern.

a switch to electromobility

The closure of CNG petrol stations reflects a wider trend in which the European Union only wants to allow emission-free cars by 2035. The aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% compared to 2021 by 2030. These measures also require the expansion of the tank and charging capacities along the main traffic roads in the EU, where charging stations for electric vehicles are to be installed every 60 km and hydrogen filling stations every 150 km. ADAC informed.

OMV itself is already investing in e-charging stations and hydrogen infrastructure, which indicates a strategic realignment towards sustainable energy sources. This is in accordance with the EU goal of greenhouse gas neutrality by 2050, whereby Germany has even more ambitious requirements by 2045.

The future of the drives

Despite the trends towards electrical and hydrogen drives, combustion engines remain dominant. In 2023, around 979,000 petrol engines and 487,000 diesel were re -approved in Germany. Even if synthetic fuels are viewed as a climate -neutral alternative, their implementation remains questionable due to the high energy expenditure in production. The ADAC explains that the costs for electric cars and the inadequate development of sustainable energy sources are still challenges for broad acceptance.

The restructuring from OMV towards sustainable drives could also be an answer to the falling demand for gas drives, which was already strongly declining in 2022, with only 13,147 new cars with liquid gas and 1,327 with natural gas drive. Meanwhile, hydrogen cars with their advantages, such as high range and locally, are faced with emission -free, but also high costs and lack of infrastructure. href = "https://www.noen.at/niederoesterreich/wirtschaft/ausgetzapften-erdgas-ade-ade-investiert-in-e-u-industrie-waterstof- 473650020"> Noen has examined these developments.

Overall, there is a clear momentum in the transformation of the traffic sector, which is promoted by both political guidelines and the investments of industry. The closure of the CNG petrol stations could be seen as a turning point that paves the way for a broader acceptance of electrical and hydrogen technologies.
