Insight into worlds of faith: Students visit mosque and church in Ravensburg
On November 28, 2024, the religious educators from the Bad Waldsee high school visited the Mevlana Mosque in Ravensburg with their 8th graders. In two groups, the students were not only able to take part in the Muslim midday prayers, but also ask questions and have conversations. In the second part of the day we went to the Catholic youth church of St. Jodok, where the young people explored the church interior and received new impulses from the youth pastoral care. This educational day set an important example of interreligious dialogue at a time when understanding and respect between faith communities is of great importance. Thanks to the religious colleagues and the support of the communities who opened these doors, the students were given valuable impressions. This initiative is particularly important to deepen knowledge about different faiths and break down barriers, such as Swabian newspaper reported.
Connection in difficult times
Meanwhile, Bishops Christian Stäblein and Heiner Koch, from the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg and the Archdiocese of Berlin, emphasized their solidarity with Muslims in Germany for the upcoming fasting month of Ramadan. In a welcoming speech, they remembered those affected by the conflict in the Middle East, especially after the events of October 7, 2023, and underlined the emotional connection many Berliners have to this region. “We share in your pain and sadness,” said the bishops, emphasizing the common desire for peace in the face of the peacelessness of our time. The connection between Muslims and Christians, especially through the upcoming fast, offers a valuable opportunity for shared prayer and inner reflection. They encouraged people to accept invitations to break their fast and experience the hospitality of Muslim communities Evangelical newspaper reported.
