Dramatic development policy: Germany's responsibility after Trump's victory!

Hannover, Deutschland - Hannover (ots)

The victory Donald Trump marks a dramatic turning point in global development policy! Jan Kreutzberg, Managing Director of the German Foundation World Population (DSW), warns that organizations that work for sexual and reproductive health must expect at least $ 66 billion. Trump plans to bring back the dreaded Global GAG Rule, which does not allow any support for organizations who inform about safe abortions. But that's not all! It is already assumed that this regulation will also be extended to the entire humanitarian aid as part of the "Project 2025" of the Heritage Foundation.

The consequences are devastating - not only for Australia, but for the whole world! Kreutzberg emphasizes that multinational organizations such as the WHO and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which are decisively supported by Germany, will also be affected. Germany, the second largest encoder of public funds for development services to the United States, is now under pressure. Slow reactions could result in catastrophic consequences for basic medical care in many regions. Kreutzberg vehemently demands that Germany, together with partner countries, take immediate measures and create compensation funds to secure these programs.

urgent appeal for support

"The current German government crisis must not lead to stagnation," warns Kreutzberg! The effects could be devastating, especially for women and girls. Even during Trump's first term, the number of uncertain abortions in Subsahara Africa has almost doubled, while the use of modern contraceptives decreased. "The health of mothers, AIDS therapies and the fight against future pandemics are on the brink," emphasizes the DSW managing director.

The traffic light coalition was the first government to include sexual and reproductive health in its program. Kreutzberg warns: "The end of this coalition must not mean the end of a feminist foreign and development policy- now it is more important than ever!"
