Drama on the road: 27-year-old's life is in danger after an accident!
In a shocking incident on Sunday, March 9, at 2:15 p.m., a 27-year-old's car overturned in Werouzach, an area of the municipality of Ebenthal. The vehicle came to a stop on its roof about ten meters away from the road after initially veering onto the shoulder to the right of the road. A first aider immediately provided first aid by pulling the victim out of the car and placing him in a stable side position. Thanks to the quick response of the emergency services, including the Radersberg Volunteer Fire Department, which was on site with two vehicles and 18 helpers, the injured man was flown to the Klagenfurt Clinic after initial treatment by the emergency services and the C11 emergency doctor helicopter. The vehicle, however, was no longer drivable and was a total loss.
Particularly reassuring for the accident investigators: an alcohol test of the driver was negative, which indicated that he was possibly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. However, the reason for the accident remains unclear. Such incidents often shed light on the traffic rules, which are always at the center of the discussion - especially with regard to truck driving bans on weekends and public holidays, as set out in the Road Traffic Act (StVO). These regulations are in force in many European countries, including Austria, Germany and Switzerland, to increase road safety and protect the environment from noise and exhaust emissions.
Traffic rules and their meaning
The Sunday driving ban for trucks is a central issue in traffic law and restricts the operation of trucks with a total weight of over 7.5 tons on Sundays and public holidays. This set of rules is intended not only to reduce noise pollution, but also to protect the environment. However, many drivers are disadvantaged by these regulations because they often have to spend their days off at rest stops instead of at home with their families. The discussion about the necessity of banning truck driving takes place regularly and shows how important it is to find a balance between road safety and the needs of professional drivers. These regulations have been in force since 1956 and their continued application demonstrates the desire to protect both public tranquility and the environment while regulating increasing vehicle traffic.
