Data chaos for corona deaths: Over 60% without vaccination status known!

A recent parliamentary question from AfD MP Kay-Uwe Ziegler has revealed an alarming data breach in Germany. According to the information published, the vaccination status of over 60% of the 187,000 registered corona deaths between 2020 and 2024 remains unclear. For around 115,000 of these deceased people, there is no information as to whether they were vaccinated or unvaccinated. Of the cases recorded, around 39,000 are unvaccinated and 33,000 have been vaccinated at least once.

What is particularly critical is that the majority of the “unvaccinated” died in 2020, before the vaccines were available. After the vaccination campaign began, only around 3,000 unvaccinated victims remained and have since died. Epidemiologists like Klaus Stöhr have described the data as incomplete, which allows for a variety of interpretations. This is seen as politically explosive, as leading politicians often spoke of a “pandemic of the unvaccinated” during the pandemic.

Political consequences and criticism

In the political discussion, FDP deputy Wolfgang Kubicki makes clear demands. He speaks of the need for a committee of inquiry due to the explosive nature of the incomplete data. This insufficient information might also have influenced decisions by the Federal Constitutional Court. In the past, former Health Minister Jens Spahn said that the unvaccinated were mainly represented in the intensive care units, which puts the current data breach in a different light.

International experts also criticize the inadequate data collection in Germany. When investigating serious vaccination side effects in 2021, German authorities had to rely on data from the Netherlands because their own information was insufficient. Studies, including those from the renowned journal Lancet, criticize the German data situation as problematic for political communication during the pandemic.

Vaccination situation in Germany

With the VacMap dashboard, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) offers a platform for evaluating vaccination events in Germany. This dashboard provides information about the uptake of routine vaccinations recommended by the Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO). It provides a visual and user-friendly way to identify vaccination gaps in different regions and age groups and plan targeted actions to improve vaccination rates. An accompanying explanatory film explains the use of VacMap in detail.

The entire discussion about vaccination status data clearly shows how important transparent and complete data collection is for political decision-making in crisis situations. Concerns about inaccurate information and its impact on public health are at the heart of the current debate.
