Café Einhorn in Mülheim closes: a piece of history is lost!

The Café Einhorn in Mülheim finally closes its doors. The last working day was Christmas Eve. Owner Brigitte Stoepke, who has been running the café since 2011, has decided to close the restaurant after more than a decade and enjoy her retirement.

The café remains in family hand because the son of Stoepke, a civil engineer who will use premises professionally. While the restaurant is now empty, some regular customers have already taken memories with them. Ancient pieces of furniture from the former pharmacy, which was opened in the Broich district in 1892 and was in operation for more than 100 years, are to find a new owner. It is considered to sell the furniture to a pharmacist in Moers.

How the culinary scavenger hunt , the building in which the Einhorn café is housed was modernized, while the historical charm was kept. Walls, ceilings, floors and lines were redesigned, with large pharmacists' cabinets and the counter. The house was bought and renovated by Brigitte Stoepke's son and his wife in 2009 before the café opened in April 2011.

The café offered a selection of homemade cakes as well as hearty dishes such as soups, stews and tarte flambée. Among the special offers were the so-called "pharmacist creations" on the breakfast map, which were based on the history of the pharmacy opened in 1892. From Italian coffee specialties to homemade products to take away, there was a lot on offer that the guests addressed.
