Bridge demolition near Innsbruck: Inntalautobahn opens after a night lock

The Inntal Autobahn (A12) near Innsbruck was completely closed in the night from March 22nd to March 23, 2025 due to demolition work by a transfer bridge. The block started at 8 p.m. and ended on time at 6:30 a.m. These measures were part of a comprehensive renovation project on this busy section from Innsbruck to Hall-West. Despite the traffic restriction, there was no greater traffic jams because traffic was diverted through the alternative road network during this time, as reported.

The 51 -meter -long bridge, which was originally built in 1968, had been in need of renovation. The Austrian motorway company ASFINAG had planned the demolition work so efficiently that they could be carried out on a single night. In order not to have the heavy excavators damaged on the road, the highway had to be filled up by about 40 centimeters. This enabled the rapid removal of the old bridge and the removal of the rubble to a nearby parking lot. The residents and numerous onlookers were able to observe the impressive spectacle and ensured a lively atmosphere during the work. The new building of the bridge is planned by the end of 2025, as adac.de reported.

The A12 is the most used to take a motorway section in Tyrol with a total length of 153 kilometers. It is an important transport connection between Germany and Austria and leads via Innsbruck, where there is a connection to the Brenner A13 motorway. The careful demolition and construction work should not only increase the safety of road users, but also improve the long-term infrastructure in the region.
