News from Lloyd Caffee: renovation and reopening in sight!

In the past few months it has been quiet about Lloyd Caffee in Bremen. If you spontaneously planned a visit to the traditional café, you often had to withdraw disappointed, because the café has not been accessible to the guests since the end of May. Only on Fridays and Saturdays can be attended the roasting shop as part of a limited factory sale. But what will become of this traditional location? The uncertainty about the future seemed great because the new owner explained the closure with renovation work. However, site manager Alexander Schenk assures: "We are committed to Bremen and the traditional brand."

The website shows information about the "temporary" closure, but so far you can see no changes on site. Empty tables, an ungutive cake show and partially filled shelves make you doubt that normality will soon stop again. Schenk explained the temporary closure for the café with difficulties when looking for personnel: "It is very difficult to find personnel." In addition, Lloyd Caffee carries out a restructuring process, from which the location in Bremen should also benefit.

reopening this year?

However, those responsible see optimistically into the future. "We believe in the brand and want to expand and make it accessible," says Schenk. The roaster remains as a production facility and will continue to roast the coffee on the banks. The planned renovation work should not only give the café a new look, but also intend to restructure the interior. It is important to obtain the café's maritime charm.

It is planned that new furniture will be purchased and the café area will be separated from the course rooms for coffee seminars. These measures should be tackled shortly, with the aim of reopening the café this year.

lloyd Caffee is proud to be the oldest roasting with craftsmanship in Bremen. Founded in 1930, the brand has an interesting story that is closely linked to the passenger steamer Bremen, who crossed the Atlantic in record time at the time. The striking name and the logo that shows the captain who sips coffee on his cup of coffee comes from the company's founder Albert Laube.

The roasting company has gone through difficult times in the recent past. In 2001 the future of the Bremen roasting shop stood on the brink when the owners wanted to close the company. But Hamburg merchants took over and prevented the worst. Christian Ritschel entered the shops in 2005 and revitalized the brand. Coffee seminars in particular enjoyed great popularity and contributed to Lloyd Caffee known far beyond the city limits.

at the end of 2022 the roasting company was then taken over by Andreas Berndt, the owner of the "Hannoversche KaffeManufaktur". Since then, Berndt, a studied biologist and chemist, has set itself the goal of further strengthening and making the Lloyd Caffee brand.

Premium partnership with Werder

At the beginning of 2023, Berndt started a "premium partnership" with Werder Bremen. Since then, Lloyd Caffee has been served in the stadium and a special “Werder Edition” is roasted. In addition to revising the website, the packaging design of the coffees was also adapted and the range was expanded. The site manager Schenk informs that twelve employees are currently employed in the roasting company, all with the aim of continuing and expanding the tradition of Lloyd Caffee. This positive development shows that the traditional brand could go up.

The interest and anticipation of the reopening are great. Many Bremen and coffee lovers hope to be able to enjoy the atmosphere of the café again soon and to immerse themselves in the diverse world of coffee.
