Teurer new building of the IGS Buschhausen: City treasury raises the alarm!
The plans for the new integrated comprehensive school (IGS) in Buschhausen are facing a dramatic turn! The costs explode and now amount to breathtaking 69.8 million euros, which is almost 21 million euros more than originally estimated. The city is under pressure because the income from taxes is falling and the financial situation is becoming increasingly tense. First calls for alternatives to the new building are loud - some politicians are calling for a re -evaluation of the project in view of the new financial realities.
The building was decided in the supplementary budget plan in 2021, at that time there was talk of 48.5 million euros. This amount included all costs for technical systems, outdoor facilities and preparatory work. But now the reality looks different: the city administration emphasizes that a renovation of the existing school buildings with additional costs of around ten million euros and a construction period of about nine years is simply not portable. "A construction in sections is not possible," said the administration. The new IGS remains the only option, even if the financial framework is anything but cheap.
political pressure and rising interest rates
For Mayor Torsten Rohde it is clear that the increased costs must not make the project fail. "It will not be cheaper with a view of the future," he emphasizes. The additional costs are to be largely financed by additional loans, but here, too, rising interest rates threaten to further tighten the situation. CDU parliamentary group leader Marie Jordan speaks of the need to thoroughly rethink the original planning. "We have to be aware that this financial effort does not remain scope for further projects," she warns.
As the city administration emphasizes, the IGS new building is tackled with a special budget and is to be created for a term of 30 years. But the financial challenges remain: by 2028 cities and municipalities are expected to make less than 58 billion euros less. Where exactly should be saved, it will be shown at the next budget meeting, which will take place on November 6th at 5 p.m. in the town hall.
