Lesumer Hof closes: A piece of catering history comes to an end!
A piece of Bremen history comes to an end! The Lesumer Hof, a popular meeting place for generations, will close its doors on January 31, 2025. Managing Director Jan Niebank announced the sad news in an emotional video message. After 70 years full of memories, from football broadcasts to family celebrations, the regular guests only have the nostalgia.
The Lesumer Hof was not just a restaurant, but a place of community. Here skating rounds, bowling societies and families met for celebrations. However, the challenges in the gastronomy, such as bureaucratic hurdles and the condition in need of renovation, have forced the traditional operation to their knees. Jan Niebank thanked his parents, who led the restaurant over three decades, and emphasized that the decision to close the chapter was anything but easy.
a loss for the Region
The closure of the Lesumer Hof is a bitter blow for the community of Burglesum. Local office manager Florian Boehlke expressed his regret and pointed out that the Lesumer Hof was a central place for many clubs and organizations. At a time when the gastronomy is fighting with falling number of visitors and increasing costs, hope for a new gastronomic facility in the region is all the more important.
The problems are not new: the decline in the number of guests, especially at the lunch table, is alarming. Many restaurants in Bremen fight with a lack of staff and rising food prices. According to the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA), there were more closures than new openings in the industry in 2023. Another chapter in Bremen's gastronomy history is now being closed with the Lesumer Hof.
