Kalajdzic to Werder Bremen? A new ÖFB star is approaching!

June 11, 2025 is a crucial date for SV Werder Bremen and their ambitions in the coming season. All three Austrians in the team, Marco Friedl, Marco Grüll and Romano Schmid, are currently part of the ÖFB national team squad. On Tuesday they played in a game against San Marino, which underlines the strong presence of Austrian players in the Bremen team. In addition, another Austrian footballer could soon find his way to Bremen: Sasa Kalajdzic is the club's focus.

Kalajdzic, currently under contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers, has struggled with significant injury problems recently. After being sidelined last season due to a cruciate ligament injury he suffered in February 2023, his future is uncertain. However, he plans to return to his old form with a possible move to Werder Bremen. This could be the starting point for the striker's return to the Bundesliga, where he played for VfB Stuttgart from 2019 to 2022.

Interest from several nations

Recent reports suggest that Kalajdzic is not only being courted by Werder Bremen, but there is also interest from other clubs from three different countries. It is believed that the player may prefer to return to Germany after already living there. This could in turn make negotiations between Werder Bremen and Wolverhampton easier, with the club ready to let Kalajdzic go on loan in the summer. The 27-year-old's contract with Wolves runs until 2027, which still gives him a few options. Kalajdzic left the club in 2022 for a transfer fee of £15 million.

As things stand, Kalajdzic has only played 327 minutes in 14 appearances at Wolverhampton so far, in which he scored three goals and provided one assist. Despite his previous successes and good relationship with the fan base, Kalajdzic is not currently slated for a first-team role. It is all the more important for him to get regular playing time so that he can get back into the game.

Injuries in the ÖFB national team

Another aspect that reinforces the situation surrounding Sasa Kalajdzic is the injury shock that is hitting the ÖFB national team. In addition to Kalajdzic, Xaver Schlager, an important player in central midfield, has also been left out of the squad for the upcoming European Championships due to a torn cruciate ligament. David Alaba, the team's captain, is also named as an injured player - his participation would be "a small miracle" for team boss Ralf Rangnick. There are also other injured players who weaken the team, such as Philipp Lienhart, Kevin Danso and Maximilian Wöber.

Werder Bremen could not only consider Kalajdzic, but also use the current injury problem in the ÖFB team to their advantage. The negotiations for Kalajdzic are an exciting aspect of team formation and could mean a decisive reinforcement for the club.
