Traffic calming in Salzburg: Neutor in the future without a passage!

In a crucial step towards traffic calming, the city of Salzburg decided to drastically restrict the passage through the Neutor. This was discussed during the planning committee on December 5, 2024 and confirmed by Mayor Bernhard Auinger. The measure aims to increase the quality of life in the old town and to establish a meeting zone between Neutor and the Museum Square. This includes the establishment of a provisional roundabout on Hildmannplatz, which is later to be replaced by a permanent solution. A design competition for the redesigned places such as Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz and the Bürgerpitalplatz should further improve the quality of stay, as Salzburg24 reported.

Details on the passage restrictions

The passage through the Neutor remains only possible to a limited extent; Exceptions apply to residents with special permits, taxis, emergency services and public transport. In addition, suppliers are allowed to deliver between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. in certain times. The restrictions made are part of a comprehensive monitoring, which documents the effects of the traffic measures and records possible relocation effects in order to further relieve the city from traffic.

Planning City Councilor Anna Schiester emphasizes that these measures are not only an improvement in the inner city quality, but also implement a long -term vision for a city worth living. According to the first controversial pedestrian zone, these changes should sustainably shape the face of the city and significantly increase the quality of life of all Salzburgers. We continue to pursue the details and future of these measures in order to record the response to the population and, if necessary, make adjustments, it was said to be in the Meinverkärt.
