Stralsund in the crisis: More and more shops are closing their doors!
Stralsund, Deutschland - Stralsund. The Alstadt von Stralsund faces an alarming increase in vacancies! A model shop in Judenstrasse has closed its doors forever, and the shoe store on the Apollonia market is also history. This sad development is not just an isolated case: the once busy pedestrian zone is increasingly losing shine, while more and more shop windows are empty and the customers stay away.
The Situation is so serious that the Stralsund citizens have already discussed it. At the last meeting, Economics Head Peter Fürst reported that of 231 shops in the old town 16 are undeveloped - this corresponds to a vacancy rate of 6.9 percent. For comparison: the nationwide average is 10 percent! The city has good contacts with brokers, but many of the affected real estate are privately owned, and the owners are often not even on site.
Stralsunder demand large brands!
What can be done to revive the Alstadt? The Stralsund themselves have clear ideas! A survey shows that large brands such as Zara, Mango and TK Max are urgently missing in the pedestrian zone. "We want not only small, individual shops, but also international chains that expand the shopping offer," says a new resident. The dissatisfaction is noticeable: Young Stralsund find the city center "boring" and wish more diversity.
The demands are loud and clear: the Stralsunder want a living city center that not only invites you to shop, but is also a place of exchange and encounter. While some long for regional peculiarities, others dream of a shopping paradise with the latest brands. The question remains: Will the city take the necessary steps to bring the Alstadt from Stralsund back to life?
