Uckermark: Historical wake -up glasses tell of times of war and storage management
A fascinating look into the past of the GDR kitchen is currently being thrown in the Fürstenwerder museum! Henning Ihlenfeldt, a passionate master baker from the Uckermark, recently discovered a very special turning find from 1945 - a glass of meat that he prefers not to open. "This is part of the existence of the home rooms and went through a lot," he explains. But that's just the beginning of an exciting story!
Before the end of the Second World War, the residents of Boitzenburg buried a collection of aroused delicacies that can now be admired in the museum. These historical treasures, including fruit glasses from the 1970s, are part of the special exhibition "Making food". This revolves around the art of preserving - from smoking to sugar. Ihlenfeldt, who had heard of a competition for the oldest wake -up glasses, was immediately thrilled and asked for a visit to the museum.
A look at the history of the storage economy
Visitors can immerse themselves in the world of the GDR supply industry. "Everyone in the kitchen had a meat grinder," says Ihlenfeldt, and that's no wonder! 170 donors from the Uckermark and beyond have contributed memorabilia to this time. The volunteer of the museum promises: "Those who go through the rooms walk through the story." Even if the museum is currently during the winter break, Ihlenfeldt is on site almost every day and invites interested parties to register for a tour.
The museum is a true contemporary witness and offers a unique insight into the culinary traditions of the GDR. If you want to experience the history of food preservation up close, you should not miss this treasure!
