Schwedt is fighting for the future: New concept for the industrial location!

In Schwedt the future will be redesigned! A committed team of town hall employees and external consultants developed the “Future concept 30+” as a direct reaction to the state -prescribed end of Russian oil in the PCK. While the city is desperately looking for solutions to secure its industrial location, the federal level remains still. Former PCK engineer Manfred Poller tirelessly asks about the status of privatization of the refinery-but the answers from Mayor Annekathrin Hoppe remain vaguely: "There is no new stand. We are now dependent on the next federal government."

The structural change affects everyone!

The structural change in Schwedt is not an isolated phenomenon. It affects not only the refinery, but also medium -sized companies, the craft, healthcare and the entire city. The mayor emphasizes the need for the future concept to create planning security and apply for funding. "We need to know what priorities the city councils set," she explains. The city has already incorporated the suggestions of companies and citizens into the concept to actively shape the change.

The vision is clear: Schwedt should develop into the leading industrial location in northeastern Germany, whereby the potential for renewable energies is to be fully exploited. The close connection to the industry is part of the city's identity and is to be used in the search for investments. The mayor sees the profiling as a research and innovation location as crucial for demographic development.

The city relies on new job profiles such as biotechnician and hydrogen managers to meet the challenges of the future. Cooperation with neighboring cities and Polish partners is also intensified. The “Future concept 30+” is a dynamic document that must be continuously developed in order to successfully master structural change.
