Neurochlitz: Brandenburg's youngest village celebrates 75th anniversary!

Neurochlitz, a small village in the Uckermark, celebrates its 75th birthday and is not only an impressive example of the reconstruction after the Second World War, but also a relatively unknown chapter in German history. Founded on October 7, 1949, the same day as the GDR, Neurochlitz is the youngest village of Brandenburg. Originally designed as a socialist place for refugees from Silesia and East Prussia, the village was built on brown -lying fields that were previously unused.

The first group of settlers consisted of people who fled from the Saxon city of Rochlitz in 1948, where living space and food were missing after the war. After arriving in the Uckermark, the challenge began: out of nowhere and with simple means they built a new home. The stories of these pioneers are fascinating and testify to an enormous perseverance.

founding history and pioneering spirit

Mayor Martin Emling announces that the founding history is strongly shaped by the memories of his grandmother. The first residents lived in so -called new farmers in the village, a composition of living space and accommodation for animals. This is how the first settlements were created without any noteworthy infrastructure: a simple sand path connected the individual houses. The lack of roads and building material was enormous, so that the required materials had to be brought up using horse -drawn carriages.

Another outstanding example of the pioneering spirit is the arrival of Ruth Oelsner, who came to Neurochlitz together with her mother and five siblings. Her memories convey the initially great disappointment and the difficulties they experienced. "We would have preferred to run back because there was no real village yet," she recalled.

Neurochlitz was not only related as a place to live, but also embodied part of the new socialist lifestyle of the GDR. The SED dictatorship formed the circumstances under which the tendency to do independent villages in eastern Germany. The foundation of the GDR itself on October 7, 1949, a few days before Wilhelm Pieck was elected first president, caught like a thread through the residents' life stories. The young republic should promise a better life and a new home, often combined with great deprivation and challenges.

a village in change

The search for a better future continued in Neurochlitz, even if the way there was rocky. Originally built as an emergency accommodation, the settlers use the demolition stones from the nearby city of Gartz with a lot of skill to build their new residence. “If you want to see Gartz, you have to go to Neurochlitz,” became a winged word that underlined the connection with the region.

Today around 150 people live in Neurochlitz, the village has now become a district of Mescherin and divides into two parts - east and west, separated by the busy federal road B2. The remarkable change of this small village also reflects the greater social change in the past 75 years. From a new place in post -war Germany, Neurochlitz has developed into a place of residence that closely combines history and society.

The moment of the anniversary is not only regarded as a solemn occasion, but also offers reason for reflection on the beginnings of the GDR and its effects on the everyday life of people in East Germany. At the same time, the connection between the individual stories of the villagers and the great political upheavals becomes clear, which determined the basis of the GDR and thus also life in Neurochlitz.

After the foundation of the GDR has been initiated and specific changes have occurred, the importance of places such as Neurochlitz remains documented and appreciated. Such small villages give an insight into the social structures and development of the region, which will be important for future generations and always live in memory. In addition, the request for understanding and saving the culture and the history you represent is also an important message in today's time.
