In the picturesque community of Barenthin, located in the Prignitz district, the future will be capitalized! The coveted competition "Our village has a future" ensures a fresh wind and attracts the winner with prize money of up to 10,000 euros. Barenthin and the neighboring district of Vehlow enthusiastically compete together to demonstrate their strengths and progress. The new children's playground, tranquil off the main street, has already invited the villagers to celebrate, and Mayor Jörg Abraham is proud of a positive population development - there have been 15 new residents since July!

The secret of progress lies in the innovative biogas plant, which was put into operation in 2011. It comes from the hands of the Barenthin-Kötzlin agricultural cooperative and has proven to be a real power package. With an impressive heating output of 420 kilowatts annually, it ensures that the fossil fuels belong to the past in barenthin. "The skepticism was great at the beginning, but now the community cooperation has proven itself," reports Anja Schrenker. While 28 households are already warm, the dream of the completely energy -independent village remains unfulfilled for the time being. The plan to take over the power grid failed due to financial hurdles.

Barenthin buzzes in front of life! The fire brigade and the Carnevals Association are the pulsating heart of the village. With 31 active members and 13 in the youth fire brigade, the fire station is an example of the social commitment of the citizens. The Carnevals Association, which was founded in 1964 and revived after the turn, has a fixed place in the annual calendar with its colorful events-from the children's carnival to the festive evening. "Anyone who comes to the Barenthiner Carnival comes again and again," enthuses Jörg Abraham, the mayor. A place full of cohesion, tradition and future visions - Barenthin shows what it means to be a living village!
