Nils Petersen about Wollitz: I don't see the end of the career yet!
Cottbus, Deutschland - Nils Petersen, the former striker of Energie Cottbus, remains a lively part of the club's history, even though he only played there for two years. The 35-year-old, who was in Cottbus from 2009 to 2011 and won the top scorer of the 2nd Bundesliga, recently commented on coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz, who announced his end of his career. Petersen does not believe that Wollitz will actually stop: "I don't see that yet," he said with a smile.
Petersen, who played in the Landesliga after his end of his career in the summer of 2023, now enjoys the freedom that his new phase of life offers him. "At some point it is good," he added, "then you are also grateful that you got through your career somewhat healthy." He plans to take part in Cottbus at the "Brittersknaller" indoor tournament in January 2025, where he will appear with other energy legends. "I am already one of the youngest," he joked and was looking forward to returning to the old home.
chances of promotion for Energie Cottbus
The euphoria around Energie Cottbus is noticeable after the club has risen in summer. Petersen watched the last games with great interest and said: "These were nice pictures." He sees the current third division season positively and believes that the direct march into the second division is possible. "I don't see many teams at the moment that are clearly and far from Cottbus," he said, emphasizing the quality of the team.
Another exciting point is the future of coach Wollitz. Petersen, who himself played below him, is skeptical that Wollitz will really stop. "I think he loves being a coach," said Petersen, adding that Wollitz left big traces in the club. The question remains who will be his successor and whether he is able to fill the footsteps of Wollitz. Petersen remains optimistic and sees a promising future for Energie Cottbus.
