Fairy tale magic in Brandenburg: The Undine competition 2025 begins!

The 21st "Undine" competition for new fairy tales was launched in Brandenburg an der Havel. The organizers are the city of Brandenburg an der Havel and the Fouqué library. The competition is reminiscent of Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué, which was born in Brandenburg an der Havel in 1777 and is known for his work "Undine", which was published in 1811. As part of the competition, the contributions in four age groups (7-9, 10-12, 13-16, 17-25 years) are assessed. Four main and ten special prizes are expected to be awarded, each endowed with 150 euros. The main prize includes an Undine statuette, manufactured by the artist Jan Beumelburg. In addition to the literary competition, the opportunity to artistically implement the winning fairy tales is also offered.

The submitted fairy tales can be handed in in printed or handwritten form in the Fouqué library. Submissions by email are also possible to the addresses cornelia.stabrodt@stadt-brandenburg.de and thomas.messerschmidt@stadt-brandenburg.de. In the Kulturpavillon, works of art of the previous year are exhibited until February 4, 2025.

The competition takes place from January 1 to June 15, 2025 and is carried out in two parts consisting of a literature competition and a competition for illustrators. The literary contributions are not tied up, and the participants in the artistic competition can freely choose style, form and technology.

The scope of the literary contributions remains the same: a maximum of four DIN A4 pages or 8,000 characters. Image artistic work can also be submitted by May 16, 2025. The award for the illustrators is scheduled for June 15, 2025. All participants must provide their contributions to the name, first name, age, age, address, telephone number and possibly school.

The jury consists of a maximum of six independent members, which is guided by renowned artists. The award winners are determined in four age groups. The first place of each age group receives an Undine statuette and a cash price of 150 euros. In addition, special prices are awarded.
