Brandenburg's bridge remains closed until 2028 - traffic turnaround threatens!
Brandenburg an der Havel is facing a massive traffic chaos! The dilapidated plane bridge will not be replaced by a new one before the end of 2028, as Mayor Michael Müller (independent) confirms. It is currently completely unclear in which procedure the new building is to be approved, which will continue to burden the already tense schedule. Over the next four years, road users will have to prepare for considerable restrictions!
The bridge is now limited to a maximum load of only twelve tons, which means that larger vehicles are no longer allowed to happen. This drastic measure follows the catastrophic state grade 4.0, which the bridge auditor awarded. Before that, a 16-ton limit was used, but this was never effectively enforced. Buses and fire engines could be the only exceptions, with the administration still checking whether two -axle standard buses with a weight of around 18 tons can also use the bridge.
Transport chaos ahead!
The situation is catastrophic for heavy goods traffic! Almost all access roads to Brandenburg are taboo for large trucks - the Quenzbrücke has been limited to 16 tons for three years, and the Potsdam bridge to 32 tons. The lock bridge will soon be limited to twelve tons! The only remaining path leads from the highway via Krahne, Reckahn and goddess to the city. There will be hope for the next summer when the first part of the new bridge over the railway tracks on Potsdamer Straße should finally be completed.
The city administration has discussed several variants for bridge operation by 2028. A plan to build a temporary bridge next to the existing one was rejected - the embankments make it impossible. The demolition of the old bridge and a temporary replacement can also be implemented by Deutsche Bahn due to the necessary blocking times. Instead, a solution is favored in which a large steel plate is placed over the road to better distribute the load. The piping of the tarpaulin and the production of a street as a dam are also checked. But the question remains: how long can the old bridge go through?
