The dilapidated bridges in Falkenhagener Feld and in Wilhelmstadt have had their best days. Moisture has hit them badly, and according to the Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment, repair is simply impossible! The Spektgrabensteg, the Spectelake Bridge and the South Park Bridge are available-the oldest among them is already tender 45 years old!

The construction work is expected to begin in 2025, and the new bridges are to be completed by 2026. But what detours do pedestrians and cyclists have to accept now? The Senate reports "Alternative connections within the green areas". Finally, work is also made in densely overgrown bank areas, which results in comprehensive preparations. Trees and shrubs have to cases, and protection fences for protected amphibians such as frogs and newts are set up!

A real act of nature and animal welfare- the vegetation is restored after the work and the banks of the bank are planted again. The new bridges should not only be robust, they also have to fit perfectly into the parks. Wood remains the material of choice, supported by steel and granite slabs. For the entire project, the Senate expects costs of around 1.85 million euros. A big undertaking for a better, modern spandau!
