Castle festival: New orchestra, old traditions and a comeback!

The Ludwigsburg Castle Festival faces exciting changes! The orchestra of the castle festival is history, and director Lucas Reuter has started looking for new musical partners. At the opening, the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra will take the stage, while the Austrian Orchestra Divertimento Viennese at the MONREPOS Open Air will come up with spectacular fireworks. A special highlight: Johann Strauß's waltzes for the 200th birthday of the composer!

Pietari Inkinen returns

Another reason to joy: Finnish Maestro Pietari Inkinen, who steered the fortunes of the festival until 2019, is back! He will conduct a Richard Strauss festival with the German Radio Philharmonie on June 21. In addition, Mozart's “Zaide” castle theater is listed in cooperation with the Stuttgart State Opera. Intendant Viktor Schoner, who was long acted as a possible successor for the management of the castle festival, has personally introduced himself in Ludwigsburg. Reuter plans to use the entire castle landscape for the festival and wants to establish an annual cooperation with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra.

a new experience in the castle

The “cardiac point” of the festival remains the residence lock, where 20 performances will take place. The gastronomy is new: from now on the team of the castle festival takes over the catering, and drinks and small snacks are included in the admission price - a real enjoyment! The open -air concerts, which were introduced under Reuter’s predecessor, are also preserved, and more places for concerts in parks and in small squares should also be added. The Festival final on July 31 and August 1, with "Stravinsky in Paris" promises a spectacular dance and music event in which the ballet and the orchestra of the State Theater on Gärtnerplatz in Munich will be on stage.
