Broadcasting contribution remains stable: Prime Minister achieve compromise!
With regard to the financing of public service broadcasting, crucial course was made. The prime ministers of the federal states have decided that the broadcasting contribution will remain stable by 2027 and should not rise until then. This was announced during a meeting in Berlin, where the Prime Minister of Saarland, Anke Rehlinger, and ARD chairman Kai Gniffke also spoke up. A new financing model has been proposed that should make it possible for less than five percent to be approved for less than five percent. This reduces the burden on contributors, while the quality of the transmitters remains secured, as Rehlinger emphasized. Information on this was also provided by TagesschauReforms on radio
In addition to this agreement, a reform package for the structure of public service broadcasting was decided. The creation of more efficient structures for reducing costs is a central concern of the state chiefs. Prime Minister Alexander Schweitzer (SPD) said that these reforms wanted to reduce the number of radio programs from 70 to 53, while there are also cuts in the division channels. The recommendation of an independent commission provided for an increase in the broadcasting contribution by 58 cents, which corresponded to a monthly payment of 18.94 euros.
The prime ministers, however, disagree with the financing and have postponed a final decision at the end of the year. This could mean that the discussions could possibly run before the Federal Constitutional Court if the public service broadcaster complains, such as ZDF reported. It is planned to cap be covered for sports transmission rights and strict regulations for the online offers that provide public law.
