Revolution in rail traffic: New ICE connections from March 2025!

Deutsche Bahn (DB) has announced significant changes in the timetable that bring about a large number of new connections for travelers in Germany. From March 8, 2025, a new ICE from Eisenach via Erfurt and Leipzig will drive directly to Rostock and Waren (Müritz) without a change. This introduction will make the travel process considerably easier, since many travelers can now reach the Baltic Sea coast easier.

In addition, an ICE that starts in Stralsund will go to Halle (Saale) from Monday to Friday at 12.13 p.m. and to Erfurt at 12.45 p.m. This will enable new direct connections, also from cities such as Greifswald and Prenzlau, which can now be achieved easier and faster.

direct connections to Stendal and Salzwedel

Stendal also benefits from additional connections, since a new ICE train couple now arrives from Switzerland at night and also offers a connection to Berlin during the day. The early train at 5.39 a.m. will come directly from Zurich, which offers travelers from the region a comfortable and attractive approach.

Another exciting point in this new timetable are the new Czech trains of the Czech Railway (ČD), which will be used between Hamburg, Berlin and Prague in the future. These modern trains, which are equipped with seats and a dining car, offer passengers a comfortable travel experience and replace older Eurocity models.

optimization of existing connections

In the Saaletal, the intercity offer between Leipzig, Jena and Nuremberg was optimized. From now on there are fresh early connections on weekdays and the times have been adapted to the needs of travelers.

In addition, faster intercity trains are available on the routes between Dresden, Leipzig and Hanover in the future. From summer 2025, the intercity 2-trains of the "KISS" type will be used on this route, which can reach speeds of up to 200 km/h. With these vehicles, not only punctuality is to be improved, but also the attractiveness of the train journeys.

In the context of the Capital of Culture Chemnitz, new IC train pairs have been introduced that offer additional connections to Berlin and Rostock. This is particularly relevant, since increasing demand can be expected in the next few years, especially on weekends.

The DB has also responded to the high demand on Freises and Sundays and will provide additional trains to NRW and Eisenach, Gotha, Erfurt and Weimar. These new trips make it easier for travelers to explore the region and offer more options for longer trips.

In order to further improve the travel conditions for passengers, the DB will also work unabated on the rail network in 2025. The focus is on the renewal and modernization of the infrastructure, which should ultimately lead to a better travel experience.

Details of these developments were published in a message that gives a comprehensive overview of the changes in the different lines. In order to increase the quality and punctuality of the rail connections, both infrastructural improvements and new trains are necessary. In this context, Deutsche Bahn asks for understanding possible impairments during the extensive construction work.
