New timetable: S-Bahn trips again continuously from Monday!
From Monday, October 14th, the S-Bahn lines S46, S8 and S85 will again run between Schöneweide and Grünau. This marks the end of four weeks on this route, which were completed as planned. In addition, the airport lines S45 and S9 also return, which continue to Grünau after a brief interruption of Südring and downtown via Adlershof. However, it should be noted that the track renewal between Altglienicke and the airport will take until November 8th.
Deutsche Bahn (DB) used the autumn holidays to carry out a number of work in the S-Bahn network. In the north area in particular, the new ZBS train security system is put into operation, which enables the trains to monitor the trains in real time and replaces the old mechanical driving barriers. The commissioning of this system also extends over the ring railway between Greifswalder Straße and Wedding as well as via the Nordsüd lines between Nordbahnhof and Alt-Reinickendorf and other sections.
construction work and traffic services
In order to connect the route to the future electronic signal box in Schöneweide, the DB also carries out cable work between Spindlersfeld and Schöneweide during the autumn holidays. There are some changes for travelers in this area:
- From October 14 to November 8, no S-Bahn traffic is offered between BER Airport and Adlershof. The S45 serves the Grünau - Südkreuz route, while the S85 turns from Schönewide to Frohnau and on weekends to Pankow.
- Additional bus lines are set up to facilitate replacement traffic during this time. These include bus lines that run between BER and S-Adlershof Airport and various stops in the area.
Additional construction work will take place between Greifswalder Straße and Bornholmer Straße, where no S-Bahn traffic is available from October 21 to November 4th. Travelers are invited to find out about the exact timetables in the S-Bahn app or on the homepage of the S-Bahn Berlin.
information about the alternatives
The DB also set up alternative means of transport in order not to let travelers down during the construction work. Regional trains such as the FEX or re-lines can be used for the BER-Ostkreuz Airport-Ostkreuz. Even during construction work, replacement buses offer flexible traffic service.
In order to find out the best connections and the current timetables, those responsible recommend that the passengers always take advantage of the electronic timetable information before traveling. This is to avoid that passengers are unexpectedly affected by larger delays or changes.
These systematic construction work must be part of the continuous endeavor of the Deutsche Bahn to optimize the S-Bahn network in Berlin and to bring it up to date. The upcoming construction projects and the associated changes are inevitable to ensure the safety and reliability of S-Bahn traffic.
From October 11th, a building information will also be available to enable passengers to understand the passengers better and to facilitate travel planning. For more detailed information on the replacement turns and changes on the individual lines, travelers can visit the S-Bahn app or the official website of the S-Bahn Berlin.
The ongoing work and the associated adjustments in the timetable are of great importance to improve the S-Bahn system in Berlin and reflect the efforts to continue to make urban local transport efficient and comfortable in the future.
